scene change

A day of trains yesterday and now in Munich, which always feels like my second home. I managed to catch up with my friends Richard and Markus last night even though I was too late to make the traditional stammtisch; and spent the morning today getting settled into the apartment. The hardest part is transitioning to German after finally starting to get up to speed and comfortable in French, especially when little things like the "thank you" after buying something have become routine. That quizzical look I get after I say "merci" just out of habit but to the German shopkeeper who has already figured out I primarily speak English is priceless.

Mixing up English and German was the first thing that happened to me when I was in Munich again after being away for eight years. Coming from a multi-cultural family myself, I know that can be a challange at times. You speak one language, think in another and also try to translate for your partner at the same time. Let's just say it provided for some good laughs.

The street looks familiar. I'm guessing Haidhausen area? Viel Spaß in München.
