After almost a week with only lights on it, I finally got my Christmas tree decorated tonight. Its been a pretty busy week with work, so it was easy to keep sliding that 'decorate the tree' line to the bottom of the list. My neighbor Laura (and Yogi) came over tonight to help me out, knowing it would be the push I needed to get it done. We made it a festive occasion complete with a fire, eggnog, and Christmas music. I made grilled cheese and tomato soup while she baked some cookies. What was most fun, though, was her unwrapping ornaments from the newspaper I had them wrapped in. It was like Christmas morning already because nearly every one would get an "awwwww, look at this" like she had just opened a present. After all the angst of whether to bother with the tree or not this year, I'm glad I did.

Okay okay okay...I'll get it done this weekend (bah hum bug)...maybe if I had a fire (or more important: a neighbor) to inspire me, I could get a bit more...inspired.
I was actually contemplating the construction of a giant cardboard tree, with little holes for hanging the ornaments. The fantasy got pretty elaborate, turning into a 3D model with lights pre-strung (hey, and why remove the ornaments?) so that I could just haul it up from the basement and plug it in each year.
