More Desert Modernism from my weekend in Palm Springs, including the Orbit In by Herbert Burns (now a hotel); then-Robinson's Dept Store by Pereira & Luckman; then-Coachella Valley Savings by E. Stewart Williams; then-Tropics Hotel by Ken Kimes... If you visit Palm Springs, there is a Visitor Information Center as you drive into town (which itself is a Desert Modernist landmark - the then-Tramway Gas Station by Albert Frey and Robson C. Chambers). They sell a map that is published by the Palm Springs Modern Committee (psmodcom) for about $7 of significant homes and buildings in the area including dates and architects. Its a great guide for something to do in Palm Springs besides sit in a pool... not that that's bad either.
